International Conference “Innovative Horizons in Medicine and Technology: Perspectives of Young Scientists” Held at KMU Polish Campus

On December 15, 2024, the Polish Campus of Kyiv Medical University (KMU) hosted the third annual international scientific and practical conference, “Innovative Horizons in Medicine and Technology: Perspectives of Young Scientists.” The event brought together students, young scientists, and educators from various institutions to foster collaboration and share groundbreaking insights in the fields of medicine and technology.

A Platform for Innovation and Collaboration

This year’s conference featured a diverse range of participants, including both students and young professionals, who presented their research in various fields such as basic sciences, internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, infectious diseases, dentistry, and biomedical technologies. The event was designed to create a platform for discussing cutting-edge advancements and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, aligning with KMU’s commitment to fostering innovation in education and research.

Participants had the privilege to attend keynote lectures by prominent experts, including:

Prof. Marcin Kaczmarek, Director of the European HealthTech Innovation Centre (EHTIC), who delivered a lecture on “The Collaborative Power of Doctors and Engineers.” He showcased how interdisciplinary collaboration can drive technological breakthroughs and accelerate advancements in medicine.

Prof. Andrii Kharkiv, a renowned plastic surgeon and professor at KMU, who presented on “Professionalism of a Plastic Surgeon – The Basis of Patient Safety.” His lecture underscored the importance of precision, ethics, and patient-centered care in modern medical practices.

Interactive Sessions and Hands-On Opportunities

The conference program included dynamic sectional meetings where participants presented their research findings, engaged in discussions, and received valuable feedback from peers and experts. Topics ranged from biomedical technologies to innovative approaches in clinical medicine.

A major highlight was the demonstration of SIMx, an advanced software-hardware solution integrating virtual reality (VR) into medical education. Attendees witnessed how the platform provides immersive training environments, enabling students to practice medical procedures in simulated hospital, battlefield, or ambulance settings. This cutting-edge technology exemplifies KMU’s commitment to incorporating innovation into the learning process.

The conference concluded with a summary session, during which the participants had the opportunity to discuss the results and prospects for the development of medicine. The conference organisers expressed their gratitude to the participants and awarded the best presentations with certificates and valuable gifts. The best presentations were recognised by students Walaa Sabbagh, Rahwa M T Hirui Mehreteab ‘Shaping the future for AI in dentistry: Building standards for smarter smiles’ (4th year, Faculty of Dentistry), Cankutay Muderrisoglu, Ade-Abolade Abduldayyan “Optimisation of surgical treatment of patients with severe burn injury” (5th year, Faculty of Medicine), Kostyana Diana ’Waldenström's macroglobulinaemia and cold agglutinin disease: A clinical case’ (3rd year, School of Medicine), Lavruk Lina and Dyatel Myroslava “Hereditary angioedema” (6th year, School of Medicine).
